THE NURSERY MOBILE: GO BIG OR GO HOME

mobile-image.jpg

You need a mobile.

Of course you do! It’s like adding a veil to your wedding dress, the finishing touch that makes the whole thing make sense, come alive even.

HOW TO FIND

First I looked at all the baby sites I love, Scandiborn, The Modern Nursery, Kidly, Smallable, Soren’s House etc.

Then I looked at Etsy, for days. WEEKS (because that is what Etsy is capable of doing to your time).

Then I almost bought not one, but three beautiful mobiles from various crafty sellers, I sent some links to my dad, HINT HINT, and then! Then, I stumbled across Coco & Co on - you guessed it - Instagram.

Coco & Co is run by a very talented, very creative woman in Chile called Constanza Fernández (but her friends call her Coco). She hand felts any configuration of her beautiful mobiles to your customised design, featuring characterful animals sat on clouds, dancing in the rain. How could you not want one of those bringing joy to your child's eyes?

So maybe you go to the trouble of Google Translating your message into Spanish to beg her to make you one and send it all the way to the UK, you might be able to get your hands on one, too.

(¡No puedo hablar español pero usé el traductor de Google! x)

I won’t lie, since I got mine I’ve had frustrated messages from people not able to communicate with her, but I think it’s because she is SO GOOD that she is SO BUSY. My order took about two months start to finish, and cost £90, but my goodness it’s the best £90 I’ve ever spent, because it melts my heart every time I look at it.

HOW TO CHOOSE

The key for me is the colour and the detail, it takes a whimsical, nostalgic concept and makes it exceptional. Also, luckily, our baby loves it as much as we’d hoped. She stares at it in raptures.

Now. If communicating in Spanish and working out how to UPS from Chile and spending almost a hundred quid on something your child might destroy at the first opportunity is not your thing, I’ve found some alternatives. That I love. Hmm. Maybe the baby room could make a case for another one? Or our room? The kitchen?
